Digipaks

When an artist releases a new album, it is sometimes in the form of a digipak. This format differs from the standard jewel case because of its book-style that often includes more panels, and ability to hold multiple discs. Also contained within the digipak are a selection of additional items, such as booklets with information about the artist or the lyrics of some of the songs from the album.

Red Hot Chili Pepper's album, Stadium Arcadium, is one notable example of an album released in the digipak format (it won the Grammy Award for 'Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package' in 2007). The pack consists of six panels, including 2 CD trays and one inner panel with a circle cut out to display the liner notes for either the Jupiter or Mars disc, depending on which side is facing the cut-out when inserted. The additional booklets contain lyrics from tracks such as Dani California and Snow (Hey Oh), as well as artwork by Storm Thorgerson.

Another example of a digipak is 'Sigh No More' by Mumford & Sons. There is a consistent theme of the band in windows throughout and it also has a track list and a sleeve for a booklet which could contain a band biography and song lyrics.
